BBA: BASIC DETAILS

BBA stands for Bachelor of Business Administration. It is a Bachelor’s Degree course that focuses on management and administration studies. It is an undergraduate level course.

BBA is a general management course. Generally, the course doesn’t focus on any specific discipline or sub-field within the field of management. It covers all the basic elements of management education. That’s why it is labelled as a general management course.

This general management course covers basic topics like HR management, organizational behaviour, business communication, management skills, office/organization administration, finance management, business laws, business ethics, accounting, planning, international business, retail management, supply chain management, marketing and operations management.

Exceptions do exist though! Many institutes are known to offer BBA Honours programs. Honours program can be considered to be ‘specialization’ course. Honours course is designed in such a way that apart from covering basic management subjects, it focuses exclusively on a particular discipline (within the field of management).

Examples of such ‘specialization’ BBA courses include BBA in Airport Management, BBA in Finance Management, BBA in Hotel Management, BBA in Retail Management etc. At the end of the day, the nature of the course depends upon the program designed and offered by the institute.

Most institutes offer general BBA course. Some institutes are known to offer BBA Honours courses. While securing admission, students are advised to give attention towards the nature of the course.

NATURE OF WORK AND TASKS

BBA graduates may work as management professionals in many sectors. If you analyze the hierarchy and structure of any industry or organization, you will be able to notice that management professionals are the ones who oversee the functioning of the whole industry or organization.

COURSE DETAILS


TYPE OF COURSE

BBA stands for Bachelor of Business Administration. It is an undergraduate level Bachelor’s Degree course. It is a general management course (exceptions exist).

DURATION

3 years. The program consists of 3 academic years. Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters. Each semester lasts for a period of 6 months.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

10+2 passed (any stream- science, commerce or arts) from a recognized board (or equivalent) is the minimum educational qualification required. Minimum aggregate marks criteria, if exists, could be anywhere between 45-55% aggregate marks.

ADMISSION PROCESS

Depending upon the institute, it could be direct admission process or merit based admission process. Reputed institutes are known to follow merit based admission process. Under this setup, marks scored by students in board exam and/or relevant entrance test are taken into consideration. Seats are allotted to deserving candidates on the basis of merit marks obtained by them.

PG COURSES AND FURTHER STUDIES

BBA graduates may go for any PG or PG Diploma course that has ‘graduation’ as the eligibility criteria. It means that they have number of PG course options available in front of them. Some useful and relevant PG courses are –

SALARY

Starting salary depends upon factors such as job profile, profile of the employer, job location, institute from which the employee has completed his education etc. Average starting salary could be anywhere between 10-30k Rupees per month. It depends on the factors mentioned above. Campus placement and the quality of institute (from which one pursues the course) plays a huge role in determining the starting salary figure.
